Project Overview & Responsibilities
Project Overview
As part of the nationwide eRezept pilot in Germany, eHealth-Tec developed a secure online portal enabling physicians to issue electronic prescriptions—particularly for practices whose practice management systems (PVS) did not yet support a direct eRezept interface. The goal was to create an intuitive, compliant, and scalable solution that aligned with strict BSI and GDPR requirements while supporting a highly diverse group of healthcare professionals. My role focused on leading UX/UI design and user research to ensure a safe, accessible, and user-centered workflow for physicians and pharmacies.
My Role & Responsibilities
UX/UI Designer & Researcher in a cross-functional agile Scrum team.
Established and maintained the Design System and Design Guide to ensure cross-product consistency and development efficiency.
Designed the information architecture, user flows, and complete UI for the physician web portal (desktop & mobile).
Conducted user research and usability tests with physicians and pharmacists.
Managed the integration of secure Video-Ident, collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring data security compliance.

Challenges & Approach
Challenge | Approach & Solution |
|---|---|
Diverse technical setups and workflows in medical practices without PVS-integrated eRezept capabilities. | Conducted interviews and task analyses to understand real-world constraints, then created simplified, linear flows suitable for varying digital skill levels. |
Integration of Video-Ident with high security requirements and minimal disruption to routine workflows. | Designed a clear step-by-step verification process, optimized messaging, and provided accessible fallback options. |
Strict regulatory and security frameworks (BSI TR-03107, GDPR). | Close coordination with Legal, Security, and insurance stakeholders to ensure compliant UX while maintaining usability. |

Tools & Methods
Area | Tools/Method |
|---|---|
UX Research | User interviews, usability testing, task flow analysis, Miro for synthesis & documentation |
Synthesis & Ideation | Affinity mapping, user journey creation, co-creation with internal teams |
UX/ UI Design | High-fidelity designs in Figma with structured developer handoff, user journeys, wireframes, interactive prototypes, clickdummies, microinteractions, and Lottie-based animations |
Agile Collaboration | JIRA, Confluence, Sprint Planning, Review Sessions |
Accessibility | WCAG 2.1, clear hierarchy, plain language |
Privacy & Compliance | GDPR, Privacy by Design, coordination with Legal & Security teams |
Documentation | Research Repository (Confluence), Reports & Presentations (PowerPoint, Miro) |

Outcome
The project successfully delivered a secure, accessible, and user-friendly portal that allowed physicians to issue ePrescriptions even without PVS integration. Design was governed by a newly created design system to ensure consistency and scalability across the platform.
Outcome & Implemented Solutions
BSI TR-03107 & GDPR-compliant physician portal for ePrescription issuance
Optimized registration and Video-Ident flows ensuring safe onboarding
Clear, structured information architecture for physicians and pharmacies
Interface designs that improved guidance and minimized error potential
Business & User Impact
Contributed significantly to the nationwide scaling of the "eRezept Deutschland" pilot
Increased acceptance and usability of the ePrescription process among physicians & pharmacies
Provided a standardized solution for non-integrated practices, reducing operational barriers
